With the holidays behind us, the mood and the climate has moved into winter. The days are cold (-12 - 0C) and we have been getting continual dustings of snow. Last weekend the kids and I went ice skating on a frozen lake in Treptow Park. It was a magical experience with the trees trimmed with snow, people sweeping snow off parts of the lake for hockey rinks (I think I counted 5 of them), and everyone skating where ever they wanted. The picture above is taken with a large statue in the background - a warm memorial to the Soviet Red Army...Treptow Park is in the former East Berlin. The statue is massive and had a Soviet soldier holding a child, his foot and sword atop a broken swastika.
Here is a video clip right after the kids got on the ice...fun to see and hear their excitement.
Photos of the kids and I having fun on the lake.
