Goethe Institute
My sabbatical stay is funded via a fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung and part of my fellowship included 2 months of intensive German language instruction at the Goethe Institute…the Gold Standard for German language instruction worldwide. The school is located in Mitte, a very groovy, hip, trendy part of Berlin just a few blocks from Alexandar Platz and Hackescher Markt. For two month, Gina and I had 25 hours of intensive instruction per week plus homework. It was like being in graduate school all over again…fun but exhausting. Der Kurs war sehr intensiv aber es war gut. Ich denke ich kann in Deutsch sprechen…und schreiben. Sehr kühl, eh? I am finished with my language instruction and my Fellowship formally began on November 1. Gina will continue with more instruction at the Neue Schule – she wants to have her Zertifikat Deutsch before she leaves…and she’ll do it, I am sure.
